Mokah Soulfly (formerly Hunter) aka Waxing Moon, is a progressive, conscious songstress and hip-hop artist out of DFW (Dallas, Ft. Worth Metroplex) that has proven herself over the last 7 years to be a formidable Emcee/Singer/Songwriter on the DFW Hip-Hop Music Scene. With the soul-stirring yin yang combo of her melodic voice and flow coupled with the other side of the coin that is her intelligent and conscious spitfire tone and brand of delivery she proves not only to be a multi-talented vocalist but a formidable emcee respected in both female and male circles by fans and peers alike.
Riding the buzz from the release of her smash single “My Shoes”, Mokah Soulfly released her freshman album titled, “Same Love, Different Day” as Hunter, on January 17, 2012 to much local and regional praise and positive reviews. A new breed of artist and entrepreneur being both in one, Mokah accomplished all this through her very own indie label and multifaceted business One Face Entertainment.
Her personal goal for the label is to see it grow into a positive and progressive force in the industry and to have it serve as a grass roots rooted engine geared towards cultivating social consciousness and facilitating entrepreneurial growth and business opportunities for young artists and entrepreneurs within the community. Owner and operator, Mokah is an intelligent charismatic artist and daring and fearless entrepreneur with her mind on her business and her business on her mind which is the business of furthering her continuing personal success in the music biz and facilitating the personal success of others as a reliable resource and pillar in support of the local arts community as a whole. As a single parent of a 16 yr old daughter, Mokah’s ultimate goal is to be an example of what it looks like to set goals, persevere, and follow through.
She is the former host of the very popular internet radio and video show titled Grass Root Salute Radio Show that aired on Yessurr.com and Deep Ellum on Air; it ran from Feb 2013 to July 2016. A woman of many talents and abilities, she wrote, arranged, produced and cohosted the show alongside fellow cohost and writer for the show, her number one soul brother, confidant and trusted creative comrade Brenian Swift a capable emcee and vocalist in his own right. For 2 years she also successfully hosted Midweek Mashup, a podcast exclusively on So Metro Radio that aired on Itunes, Iheart Radio, and other major platforms.
In addition to the release of her debut album Same Love, Different Day, she has also blessed the mic with fellow Dallas based recording artists such as The Jettshow (#BoutThatLife: The Minority Report), Erreon Lee (The Surface), Da Dreak, Black (GMA 2), Que P (SouthernGravySmotheredSh!t), Alsace Carcione, the talented group of artists on the PAEME roster, King Ashoka and other DFDub heavy hitters.
Mokah released a project from this multi-talentend, multi-dimensional duo (herself and Brenian Swift) as a true team effort in the formation of an Afro-futuristic performance art group known as MysticVerse in a project titled Escape from Scar City: A Beginner’s Guide to Terraforming Part 1 the music of which will be produced by Sky Paige aka Brenian Swift. This Album featured Mokah Soulfly in the guise of her spiritual avatar Waxing Moon and Brenian Swift in the guise of his spiritual avatar Raven Looks Deeply. Along with Brenian Swift, she also released a project with Dre Spacey as Deep Space Natives – A.P.E. (Alienated Peoples of Earth) Muzik in 2020.
A new single hit the stream waves in January of 2018 “Goin Thru'” produced by famed MouseQuake; check it out on all streaming platforms. In June 2020 Mokah released a single with Grammy Award winning producer Jah Born, “Commitment” which can be streamed on all platforms now.
Mokah Soulfly has graced the stage of House of Blues as an opener for Ginuwine (Dec. 2019), at the 2013 Natural Hair Parade as an organizer and opener for Erykah Badu, Trees Dallas, Gilley’s (The Palladium), The Nines Bar as an opener for Sa Roc, Life in Deep Ellum, Curtain Club, Club Dada, Zubar, The Green Elephant, Prophet Bar, Sandaga 813 and many of the other noteworthy venues past and present in the Dallas area.
The singer rhymer has finally completed her soon to be released sophomore album produced by former DFW resident, producer M Slago out of Tennessee. This album titled “Moja Na Maji” (“The one with water” in Swahili, an ode to The Age of Aquarius), will be a Southern Neo-Soul Space and Trip Hop mixture full of her signature melodic grace and jazzy flow official drop date slated for April 2021.
